Shopping Discovery: Junk Dog Salvage 

This eclectic shop is one that is easy to miss as you drive down a very busy and cluttered Monterey Road in Stuart.  At one time, there was a used furniture store in this location and without thinking about it, I assumed Junk Dog was more of the same.  Thankfully, I discovered the new and very different Junk Dog Salvage on Facebook.  Wow!  They really thrive on social media and try to post pics of new items daily.  The owner, Laura Cirillo, says that their record time between posting something new on Facebook and someone calling to buy it over the phone is 7 minutes! That is some powerful social marketing.

The store has a definite vibe to it that you just have to experience for yourself.  One customer told Cirillo that it was like walking into a Pinterest board.  How to describe the style?  Industrial chic? Modern country? Retro? Vintage? All of the above.  They sell a variety of furniture that is “customized” by their furniture artists: Jessica, Jenny and Christina. They also feature art pieces by local artists Brad and Julie. With an eye toward "repurposing", they incorporate everyday and vintage items in creative ways.  The items in the shop are in keeping with current trends and similar to goods featured on HGTV decorating shows and in the pages of your favorite magazine. I browsed the shop other day and saw many things that were just begging to be brought home, but that little voice in my head kept whispering “tuition payments times two” and that stopped the cash from leaving my wallet.  As another customer put it “this store is like a puppy store, you want to take everything home with you!"
